Senior Design Engineer

Leading detailed engineering design workstreams and managing other design engineers/draftsmen

The main responsibilities of the Senior Design Engineer include:

• Leading detailed engineering design workstreams and managing other design engineers/draftsmen
• Supervising the production of high-quality detailed design drawings (electrical, mechanical and civil), including reviewing and providing detailed feedback on draft deliverables
• Performing and checking all required electrical engineering calculations including:
  • Sizing of PV systems, ESS, inverters, switchgear, cables and strings
  • Calculation of losses and voltage drops
  • Simulation of system performance
  • Evaluating different technology, component and supplier options
  • Ensuring designs are compliant with the relevant regulations, standards andcodes
  • Optimizing designs wherever possible for performance, cost and constructability
  • Developing and maintaining internal design styles, standards and templates
  • Building and developing supplier relationships
  • Providing technical support to business development team, including creating preliminary designs for proposals and reviewing cost estimations
  • Providing technical support to installation teams working onsite, including detailing and design revisions
  • Providing technical support to O&M team

In addition to the above, the Senior Design Engineer is expected to coordinate and work effectively with other members of the team, and to assist with furthering the goals of the company in general, even where this may involve work that is not strictly related to their day-to-day responsibilities.

Candidates Should Have:

• At least 6 years of solar PV design experience at the C&I scale, ideally including some hybrid / ESS systems
• Degree level qualification in electrical / power systems engineering
• Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering to high standards
• Expert knowledge of core software packages such as AutoCAD and PVsyst
• Good existing knowledge of industry best-practice and international standards
• Strong communication skills in English (written and spoken)
• A growth mindset, with a willingness to learn and master new and unfamiliar technical matters quickly
• Long-term commitment to being a part of a growing business

In addition, the following attributes would be an advantage:

• Experience working on utility-scale solar PV projects
• Experience working on non-solar LV electrical systems, MV electrical systems or communication and control / SCADA systems
• Knowledge of other relevant software packages (i.e. Homer, ETAP, Rated Power, PLC programming platforms etc.)
• Relevant specialized training
• Good understanding of the economics of PV projects
